CenturyLink requests retirement of copper in Quest territories
Posted on Wed Oct-19-16
As CenturylLink continues its transition to IP-based fiber services, it has asked the FCC to allow retirement of copper facilities in multiple markets within its Quest territories, specifically in the East, Western, South, and Midwest regions of the U.S. This includes the following states: Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Wisconsin. In the filing, the telco company stated that these copper retirements would not impact the copper facilities to be retired. Though not cited, the transition could face protests from customers still using copper-based services. (Kat Wallace, Telecomsubs.com)
